Hello, I am Resourceful Nikki, your DIY resource “guide mother”! I provide wives and mothers who consider themselves non-creatives, no-fuss assistance in all things DIY. My goal is to help you feel confident in navigating decisions! Allow me to be the friend, sister, mother you call on when you need help or advice tackling projects from party planning to home design.
I Love Creating!
Crafting, crocheting, sewing, knitting, painting, inventing! I do it all because I love being creative. I find artistic value in everything.
A while back, I took a “break” from designing and crafting only to find myself in the car headed to the store to buy balloons to make an arch. I had been tasked to handle an event decor using 21 balloons. On previous occasions, I had been tasked to plan a birthday party for $200, or build 32 table centerpieces for $100 for a fundraiser or making shirts for my parents’ anniversary. The list goes on. Looking back, even to my childhood, I figured out a way to build, create, design, or plan something on a budget. That balloon arch was a success, and it cost less than $20!
Have you ever enjoyed doing something so much that even when you try to stop doing it, find yourself pulled right back into it? So goes my relationship with arts and crafts. What can I say? It’s a gift and an obsession. So it’s not unusual to find me on my “day off” starting another project…painting wall art, building furniture, planning another party, working on a school project, designing something…anything!
I would rather be working on a project than doing anything else in the world with my free time, but that’s not the only reason for creating this blog. I want to respond to that distress signal that you send out whenever you shrug your shoulders and say, “I don’t know how to do that” Or maybe you feel slightly savvy, but you feel intimidated by those Pinterest experts. You have a place in this creative world, my friend, I can show you the way!
And So My Blog Was Born
After whipping up a balloon arch on the fly and sharing my insight on how to do what I do (see below) with everyone who helped me set up the balloons, they asked me why I wasn’t sharing my work. Moms and wives who wouldn’t call themselves creatives, in particular, are looking for guidance on easy DIY budgeted items. Light bulb! Why wasn’t I sharing this? I keep all of my plans and photos of the process. And I share them with my small circle of friends, but were there other people who need a DIY resource? I hadn’t thought about it until then.
So here I am starting a new phase in my life of sharing my tips, ideas, and resources, all while managing a household of three busy children, a wonderfully supportive husband and a full-time job. I decided upon “Resourceful Nikki” because resourceful is how others have described me over the years. And that’s what leads someone to ask me to create something or find an answer to a DIY question! My name is Nicole, but if you know me from back home in New Jersey, you probably call me Nikki.
I look forward to being that friend you can lean on in your life’s design planning by giving you the confidence you need to find your confidence in succesfully completing projects. And thank you for feeding my love of arts and crafts! My poor husband has to take a back seat to scissors and glue again because the break is off (it was never on), and I’m back in! Happy Creating!
