Now I will admit, since having children, my kitchen is not the neatest. How could it be with all the hands that touch it? Gone are the days of plastic bowls neatly stacked and pots that were easy to find. If you’re like me then you can make these reusable labels your kitchen jars using chalkboard paint.
We all love cute labeled jars that say what’s inside! For my twist on this classic, I use chalkboard label paint to create labels that can change according to what’s inside the jar. I am Resourceful Nikki, so I like to think about how I can repurpose something even before I use it for its original purpose. I spent less than $6 on this project.
Materials & Tools
- A jar – I purchased mine from the dollar store.
- Multi-surface chalkboard paint– make sure it works on glass. I wouldn’t recommend spray paint for such a small area.
- Sponge paintbrush
- Painter’s tape
- Chalk
Start With A Clean Jar
The first step is to clean your glass to apply the paint. My jar had a nice square area, which made it easy to create the perfect square border with the painter’s tape.
Apply the Chalkboard Label Paint
The next step is to paint your chalkboard paint onto your glass. Make sure your application is smooth, and if you mess up, wipe it off before it dries. The dry time is the longest and least exciting part because the paint has to cure (which makes me think about beef jerky).
Write The Labels For Your Kitchen Jars
When your paint has cured (probably by the next day), grab that chalk and write labels for your kitchen jars. Your jar will be completely hand washable in case you want to change the contents. Nikki, I have terrible handwriting. If this is you, my friend, I’m sorry. There are things I can figure out, but penmanship is not one of them. Perhaps you can find another friend who writes well or add an initial.
And there you have it a nice chalkboard label jar! Happy creating!
