I would tell you that I came up with this upcycled soap dispenser and bowl because I want to save the planet by reusing items I would naturally recycle. And while I do care about our world being overrun with plastic, I happen to like not being wasteful. I don’t just spend money to spend it, and if I can find another use for something rather than throwing it away, I feel better about my purchase! Okay, let me get off my soapbox (no pun intended) and get to the project!
So sometimes (all the time) we buy hand soap bottles. Well, I bought a hand soap bottle which cost $5 because it was the only one left (yikes!). And so I decided to figure out a way to reuse it. I know you’re probably saying, “Well I just refill it with soap and keep things moving”. Okay that’s great also but sometimes I want it to look nice.
Materials and Tools
- Hand soap bottle
- Spray paint – I like Rust-Oleum
That’s it. Two simple items! I also found a bowl for .79 and figured I could use it as well.
Spray Paint
You take your soap bottle and remove the labels. I suggest blocking the opening of the bottle with tape or cotton balls. You don’t have to paint the neck because the pump covers it. Just paint all the areas that you will see below the screw-on pump. Be sure to take off the pump top, unless you want to spray paint that as well….and by all means, you can if you’d like for a monochromatic look (all one color!), Oh and make sure you are in a well-ventilated room, so you don’t inhale the fumes.
And there you have it a nice bathroom soap dispenser! That was super easy.
How to Display Your Upcycled Soap Dispenser and Bowl
So I rolled up some washcloths (fold in half then roll) and added soap for a nice touch. You could use the bowl to hold those cute soaps that you get as a gift but never really use them. It’s your bowl, though, so do what feels right for your bathroom. Remember, if you like it, I love it! (Or should you love it and I like it?…lol!) Happy creating!
