So my face mask ear saving hack has been popular, and I wanted to piggyback off of the face mask problem-solution success. Since our world is filled with face masks now, I thought this would be another great place to start. From the moment we wake up, they are everywhere. No, seriously, they are everywhere! My family leaves clean face masks all around the house. They are under the couch and in toy boxes. And let me not forget the ones I find in the car stuffed under the seats. The other day I spent a half-hour looking for my black face mask to wear to an event. So I have wanted to create a family face mask storage idea.
Here is why I have face masks all over the house. The dirty ones get washed with the laundry and added to the vast mountain of clean clothes until someone needs a pair of fresh undies, and we must succumb to the chore of folding. These face masks don’t have a place in the world of our everyday clothes because life hasn’t been normal. My mom, Mama resourceful, keeps hers in a sanitizing case or on the entryway table near the door. I can’t do that because I have little hands that like to touch things, especially face masks because, why not. So allow me to share my family’s face mask storage idea!
Shower Caddy Face Mask Storage
You Will Need:
- A multi-pocket mesh shower caddy
- Command strip wall hooks (small size)
That’s it. Two Items. I purchased a shower caddy on Amazon for $6 and then took some command hooks I had leftover from probably hanging something up.
This option is great because everyone in my family can have a pocket for their clean face masks. Hang it up near the door, you exit out of frequently, and you are all set! No more masks lying around the house because that isn’t sanitary.
And speaking of sanitary, I shared this idea with my mom, Mama Resourceful, and she mentioned that she uses a sanitizing case to clean and store her mask. Okay, I hear you, Mama Resourceful. I need to find a solution to keeping my family face mask storage idea clear of any contamination.
Use Plastic Sandwich Bags for Face Mask Storage
So take one additional step and place your clean face mask in a plastic sandwich bag until ready to use. You can keep the plastic bags in the pockets and reuse them to prevent unnecessary plastic waste. Mama Resourceful liked that idea, but still not enough to replace her mask sanitizer. No contest!
Family Face Mask Storage on the Go
Face Masks are as commonplace as baby wipes are for my house. I kept wipes stored everywhere because you never knew when you would need then. Same for face masks. We need backup masks for our backup masks. I don’t know about you, but I have left my house and forgot to get my mask. Sometimes I forget the new normal that we live in. I see others do the same “face mask shuffle.” They get out of their car with no face mask in sight and happily walk towards the store. They stop abruptly (like a line dance), turn around, and go back to their car to get their mask. The only thing missing is a hand clap. So I have some suggestions on where to store those face masks in other key places.
A Ziplock Bag
I keep a ziplock bag of face masks in my car’s armrest. It’s my first line of backup face masks for when I am out and about. I make sure that I have one for everybody in my family. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard, “I forgot to bring a face mask.” And that’s from my husband alone. I like using a plastic bag because I can mold the shape to fit around the big tub of disinfectant wipes in my armrest.
For school
If your children have in-person school to attend, make sure to provide them with a spare face mask because well, they’re kids. They do stuff to masks all the time. Add a vinyl zipper pouch to your kid’s binder where they can keep an additional clean face mask or two.
For Your Purse Or Bag
Use an old (but sanitized) eyeglass case to store clean masks in your purse. It will keep them safe and crumb-free from all that rummaging you do in your purse looking for your ink pen, keys, or your sanity!
At Work, Travel, Or Other Places
Use a baby wipe carrying case. I recently donated a truckload of baby items to Goodwill. I tossed my baby wipe carrying case in the pile, thinking, I don’t need this, haha! Well, like I usually, to the disdain of my husband, I throw something out and then look for it later as if I still have it. In my defense, I didn’t think I would need those wipe cases again. Here is where my husband would step in and say, I never think I need something until it’s gone. Well! So if you happen to have a wipe carrying case, it is a good face mask storage solution.
Face Mask Storage for Dirty Masks
“What do you do with the dirty face masks, Nikki?” So if they are disposable, I throw them away, but I have a solution for the reusable face masks that need laundering. If you’re like me, chances are you do get home and put your single face mask in your washing machine and start it up. That’s a waste of water and electricity. I’m also not trying to do laundry every day, as you can tell by my disdain of my laundry pile. So I purchased another single-pocket mesh caddy for $5 and hung it in my laundry room.
If you are worried about keeping the contaminated masks particles away from everything else, store them in a plastic bag inside the mesh caddy. Wash them all at once during your typical laundry day. Tada!
So far, my family face mask storage idea has been successful. Aside from my daughter’s face mask mysteriously lying in the grass, I know where my face masks are, and I can grab them quickly before we all head out the door. Where have you been storing your face masks? Does this sound like an idea that would work for your family? Share your thoughts! Pass this post on to some friends who could use a storage idea.
